3 Easy Steps to Start Fresh

Guides 3 Easy Steps to Start Fresh

This is not an official guide but my personal suggestion.
  • A clean install of VaM runs faster.
  • If you only download the packages that you need, you keep the game small and fast.
  • You need plugins and assets to make a good scene, or run a scene that was made with them. Even the list of essentials is long.

If I also want to have all the clothing, hair, décor, furniture and rooms that I need, the list gets longer.

There is an easy and quick way to perform a clean install and have all that. It's just three steps:
  1. Install VaM, enter your key, start it.
  2. Download these three packages:
  3. In the menu, go to File/ Open Package Manager / Scan Hub For Missing Packages / Missing Referenced Packages / Download All.

01_gameMenu.jpg 02_gameMenu.jpg 03_gameMenu.jpg

You may need to repeat this third step after the game downloads the initial batch of dependencies and finds their additional dependencies.

Let VaM do its thing, go watch a show. It's going to download something like 150-200 var packages. That will include all the ones on my essentials list, and also many clothing items, hair, décor, furniture, and rooms. These are all good-looking assets, and great plugins, and they are all free. A lot of the scenes that you download are going to have many of these in their dependencies.

Now you have all you need to build your scenes, all you need to run most free scenes that you find on the hub. All for free.

Even after you add all that you need, a clean install runs faster than a bloated install. And you can make it run even faster if you use FastPhysics settings when possible.

If you'd like to download a single scene pack that showcases many things that VaM offers, you might wanna try Babysitter Scene Pack. It has one example for each popular type of scene
  • exercise/yoga,
  • idle/posing,
  • dancing/teasing,
  • sex/animation loops,
  • bondage/roleplay.
The dependencies include a few other important downloads such as
  • Captain Varghoss.BellyBulger
  • DoesNotCat.RealFakeLabias
  • IAmAFox.Leather_Straps
  • kemenate.Morphs
  • and Xnop73.RealityCapture_Room an example of a room made with photogrammetry,
Scenes like epiDeluxeRoom have very consistent lighting. Getting close to that level of uniformity with photogrammetry based assets is what Babysitter Scene Pack strives towards.

Photogrammetry based environments that also support dynamic lighting, such as the ones found in epiRoom strike a good balance between the two approaches. The baked lighting works as an ambiance lighting pass that the dynamic lights will go on top of. The shadow from the lights add up to the “baked in shadows” that are like infinite bounces generated on a quantum computer (because real life).

Alternatively, the cell environment in epiTemplateChain still offers the best performance.

It's a good idea to allow the user to turn off the room (except for the furniture/props that the action needs) with a single click. All these examples offer such an option.

Enjoy!

Thank you for this! I still have my original, bloated 300GB install from two-and-a-half years ago, and I've wanted to do a new install but I've been dreading the tedious task of selectively copying what I want to keep. This has given me a good head start and now I"m on my way.

I've been waiting to install the newest version until I could plan out an install like this. This made it simple and easy. Thanks much!

This is a great idea. I currently have 4 installs at various stages of bloat. From completely clean (for final var testing) to everything I've ever downloaded. It makes a huge difference in speed so a well populated but clean install is pretty handy. One suggestion though; After downing the initial ~200 vars, move them all into a subfolder in AddonPackages to keep these essentials from getting mixed up with the inevitable bloat. Unless there is some performance reason to leave them in the AddonPackages folder itself?

I'm not sure that the scenes what reference them would find them in a new folder. But I do back up the whole clean install after all the packages are downloaded, so that a reinstall is just a copy and paste of this backup folder.
