Hello.

My new PC has an Asrock motherboard, among other things. There is an entry called “Gaming Mode.” If I understand correctly, my 8-core processor, which normally has 16 threads, is reduced to 8 threads.

However, the individual threads get more power.

Because VAM is not particularly well optimized, some calculations are only supposed to run on individual threads, which is why the maximum performance is limited to the performance of the individual threads (at least that's what I read somewhere).

Has anyone had any experience with this? Does Gaming Mode improve performance in VAM?

Try the benchmark scene in this category and test your system "gaming mode" on and off. That will give you real numbers to compare.

It disables SMT (Multithreading) for better performance in (most?) games but that is something basically every bios can do. Since VAM isn't your typical game, it's hard to generalize settings that work well for everyone. As Atani already said, you need to test and compare. MacGruber has a good fool proof benchmark scene for that.

While you are at it, you may want to check out the CPU performance Patch if you haven't already.

Thanks for the information

I tried the benchmark scene, but the fps didn't change with the “gaming mode”.

I already have the CPU patch, but haven't adapted it to the new processor yet. I'll have another look tomorrow and then at least post something in the benchmark thread.
