A performance Guide for Virt-a-Mate (& other apps)

Guides A performance Guide for Virt-a-Mate (& other apps)

How ur experience with nv smooth motion? on my 4080 it works, double framerate, but with downside of loosing readable depth buffer=no SSRTGI through nv freestyle. Also some serious problem with all transparent textures and particles, hugely tanking perfomance, like a texture caching problem so u need restart vam almost every scene

Thanks for reporting this - if you dont mind I'll verify and add some of your information as a disclamer in the guide. I dont usually play multiple scenes before restarting since that always leads to various issues, especially memory related ones. I also dont use nv freestyle and I havent seen any troubles with transparent textures in the scenes im using/playing.

These hiccups are probably due to smooth motion being so new, some games also get a stutter/blurryness after tabbing in and out a couple of times. I guess it will resolve within a couple of driver updates. :)

Dont have any visual glitches, but transparent textures and particles hit very hard on perf. If u press T for vam UI its like half of fps, any fluids also drop perf hard. Also changing any textures, skin menu a lot slower. What worse is perfomance degrade with time. Dont sure about implemetation of smooth motion, i just use SotTR profile in nv app, maybe if we have some Unity game profile which more compatible to vam it will be better, dunno

Im so excited to try this out! I have been using VaM for a while. I run a 14900k and a 4080 super and never had good frame rate with VaM. I was always running around 30-40fps and would mess with the quality setting in VaM and would never get anything much better than 45. Out of the different connection options, VD and direct cable, which one would you say is the best? TIA!!!

I also use a 4080 paired with a 14900k and i can safely say that if you have 30-40fps, something is off. I consistently get 60-80fps with cable connection (160% resoloution set in the meta software) and capped 120 fps when using VD. Make sure youre not hoarding thousands of .var's in your vam folder - no performance tweak will help you if you do.

In my opinion, VD is the superior pick - gameplay smoothness with capped frames and the AV1 codec option (Q3 only) makes the experience SO much better. On the other hand, cable connection can have crystal clear visuals with that upscaled resoloution and some other meta software scalers that were added last year. I guess its a preference thing - I'll stick with capped performance though because I only play very interactive scenes. :)

so i did the tweak and VaM launches now without steamVR launching and can see that it is launching to VD. but im still getting about 40 fps in VaM. Any suggestions?

How many files are in your AddonPackages folder?

How many persons are in the Scene youre trying to play?

Do you have SSW (Synchronous Spacewarp) enabled in the VD settings?

Did you change the resoloution scale % inside of VaM's performance settings?

672 addons. Just 2, (me and girl), SSW is enabled, I dont see a resolution scale, just render scale. That is set at 2. even if i lower that all the way down to .5, fps doesnt change. Thanks for the help btw.

Desktop VaM im getting 200fps in scenes.

Make sure to not drag the resoloution scale beyond 1. That also explains why you had high Desktop FPS and low VR FPS.

The res scale slider inside of VaM isnt affecting desktop but scales in VR. Its very cost inefficient scaling compared to other options and the quality increase isnt worth its redicolous performance cost.
