• Hi Guest!

Please be aware that we have released a critical security patch for VaM. We strongly recommend updating to version 1.22.0.8 using the VaM_Updater found in your installation folder.

Details about the security patch can be found here.

Guides A performance Guide for Virt-a-Mate (& other apps)

I noticed you say not to use the Classic version, but the Wireless version doesn't support Valve Index whereas the Classic does. I've got an Index, so is this not worth attempting for me?

I'm on a desktop OC'ed RTX 4090 rig if that matters. I get good FPS (depending on the scene), but I'm always looking for ways to get more.

Unless something major changed that i missed in the last 1-3 Months, it wont work. There is no way to get VD running with the described benefits if youre using a classic cable-connected headset.

Since I haven't purchased Virtual Desktop yet, I was wondering if it's still necessary considering the latest updates to the Meta Quest Link app. Is it still worth it for vr gaming?

And thanks for the great guide!

what did meta patch in? could you link some update notes?

I don't know, but since Meta keeps releasing updates, I thought they might be getting closer to, or even matching, the performance of Virtual Desktop. If you say they're not, I'll trust you because I'm not an expert, I just wanted to be sure before buying.
Thanks for the answer

Id have to read up on recent updates and see what they did precisely - unfortunately i dont have time for that until after the holidays. Generally, VirtualDesktop was at least a good year ahead of Meta from what i can tell as a User. For example, Meta released their Quest3 with incredible passthrough (hardware wise), but their software had no proper way of accessing it. The go-to for everyone that wanted to properly enjoy it, was VD. Weirdly, the indie VD dev pushes seemingly way harder than that huge company with limitless resources. Seems to be a trend these days, lol.

You cant go wrong with VD though (if you have a compatible headset for it!), if youre short, maybe wait until christmas, they often have 50-70% off events around the holidays. :)

What happened to the FSR/foveated guide? It's like all of that information was redacted.
I removed the information regarding the FSR/foveated tools due to a number of reasons, ill list them in order of (my percieved) significance for you down below:

1. It lead to issues for some users, which required me to provide support for them. Sometimes just to roll back the installation because it simply didnt work on certain devices/connection setups. This wasnt an issue initially, but ive got many things going on that demand my time currently.

2. It only helps with GPU-bound performance. When i created the Guide in late 22, many people were still using 10X0 (or similar) GPU's that resulted in VaM VR being GPU bottlenecked. Today, people have access to way better GPU's that easily stem what VaM VR demands (expect if youre scaling to extreme resoloutions). Its usefulness diminished with GPU progression.

3. Many VR softwares now have simple to access, built in scalers, like the Meta App or VirtualDesktop - those offer a great visuals/performance package.

4. It wasnt as user-friendly and simple as i would like my guides to be.
