The photo shoot

Scenes The photo shoot 1.0

The file is a .zip instead of .var although it contains the meta.json file that belongs in the var. meta.json also says it's "PC" licensed without any secondary license, even though you posted it in the free section

I suggest repacking it with a free license then.

You would get more downloads if you did
Im not using var files, creates duplicates or I'll have to share an empty scene with no hair no environment etc then the alignment will be an issue.
Im not repacking it either, although its a free scene for everyone its for private use only. I don't want people changing the character and reselling it. I like sharing it my way. Ill put a link to a video on how to install. Var files cause more problems than fixes.

Sorry but you don't understand how vars work. You can share your scene in a var file just as you would in a zip file, the advantage is that users can just skip the unpacking since VAM does it internally. And users don't have to worry about getting a local installation dir where the contents of hundreds of resources are mixed up with each other in a huge mess. This is the issue that the var system fixed, and you'd rather go back to the old system?

The zip file you shared - you could simply name it "s p l i n e VR.DIANNE_TOY_PHOTO_SHOOT.1.var" with the exact same contents and place it in AddonPackages, and it will work as if you had unpacked the contents to the local Custom dir.

Yes, different vars can contain the same file and you can end up with a duplicate of that file, but that's far better than having files scattered all around the local installation with no information about where they came from. Duplicates are easy to hide from the UI using the hide checkbox, but that's not really even necessary. Also, the more people use vars, the fewer duplicates there will be since vars can reference other vars as dependencies. So, instead of having that EnhancedEyes or whatever copied inside the var, you just reference the .var resource and you don't need to share a copy. A thousand scenes can reference that one .var just like they could reference a local file.

I don't want people changing the character and reselling it.
That's what CC BY-NC and CC BY-NC-SA are for

Sorry but you have no idea what I do or do not understand. My directory is all self labelled so its as simple as it can possibly be, So there is no mess. I am in the middle of changing my some of my scenes from PC to CC BY-NC-ND right now as I thought just sharing my PC stuff for free would be a simple little click, I didn't realise you would start crying over it 😄 I've been around since 1.3 so telling me I don't understand is hysterical and incredibly presumptuous. I will never share var files, I have had nothing but DM's about problems they create and my supporters love the way my scenes just work out the box so why would I change. To please you? ahh no don't think so.

Let me start by saying Im very new to the VAM scene and had to learn how to use this program from the ground up. I personally dont mind the .zip format at all. Just drag and drop..overwrite files, pretty simple. Since there are a few ways to load scenes into VAM and there is no explicit rule saying he cant use a .zip format and since he is not alone in this regard (other creators still use the same format) I dont understand why this is even an issue. From what I can see the license is fine the way he has it. This comes down to preference. Most of the files I have in my VAM folder are in fact .var files, but i also have a huge list of duplicates related to those files that i have to clean out. There is no perfect fix for any given problem.

There's plenty of reasons why vars should be preferred, which is why I try to encourage creators to use vars. Of course, they can decide not to, it's up to them. But check e.g. this reddit thread for why vars should be preferred.

I'd say whatever issue there is with vars isn't fixed by "let's not use vars", it's to use vars correctly. Unfortunately with no official guide on that, it's not the easiest thing to do and people tend to make the sorts of incorrect claims like splineVR here saying he'd have to share an empty scene with no hair or environment (simply not true) - but if everyone used vars the way they should be used, everything would work perfectly. It's a good system but badly documented.

Easy to say when you don't have my message inbox. I used to have 5-10 messages every day from supporters asking questions about why my scene is empty or the hair isn't the same settings or when they loaded the environment it caused clipping of the characters feet which then caused penetration misalignment. Now I zip everything I get zero messages about issues.......ZERO. Now I only get messages about how they love my 'straight out the box' style of sharing. Apart from you...again.....complaining.....again 🤣

Well I'm sorry to hear you had issues with the var system, I agree it's not easy to use. But don't convince yourself that because it didn't work for you, it can't work for you - it can. If you let me, I could even help you figure out the issues you had with packaging and scenes being empty etc.

As is most things with VAM. I learned that the hard way. If it weren't for miscreatedreality posting a video in a reddit thread i follow i would have not known Vam existed. Once i discovered it justlookinfornothings youtube videos provide the only tutorial like experience i could find aside from college textbook sized articles that are the very definition of tldr. At the end of the day this is a game about titties. A game where i can shove a dildo in a chick ass and just because i feel like it i can move the tab on the scale slider all the way to the right and make the dildo the size of a dumptruck and watch her physics explode. Theres old school and new school and i accept that. 2.0 will hopefully clear everything up and we will have a definitive direction to move in. Until then im looking at titties and i dont what file format those titties come in haha.

What? dude I've been using this programme for years, I don't need help. 🤣 🤣🤣 my way of sharing doesn't make any duplicates, all my settings on hair/clothes/environment is all the way I intended. People click my scene file and it works EXACTLY HOW IT LOOKS IN THE PICS. So why would I change anything.

so ive been farting around in vam for about a year. i dont like the var system. much easier to unpack the files i find. even the vars i get i just unpack em anyway. im not a creator tho and i dont release stuff. just a users 2 cents.
