Why aren't clothing / hair customizations saving with my scene?

I have a scene that I added a new person, I make some customizations to the appearance (e.g. changing hair color / clothing color)and save the scene. However when I load the scene again, the hair / clothing are the same assets, but they lose the customizations I did to those hair / clothing, and I have to re-load my preset. Is there some setting I'm missing to save customizations with the scene?

Physics settings on the controls (e.g. elbow position spring ) are also not saved with the character either, upon reloading the scene, they are all set back to the default. The only thing that loads correctly with the scene is the morph.

I believe you haw to save preset for hair and also clothing if you want them be saved in scene

It should save with the scene.

But there can be reasons why it is resetting. Maybe a plugin is loading an appearance at the start of the scene?
VAMStory's Director has the option to trigger on scene load or the EventSceneLoad from LogicBricks.

Or it is not resetting but the saving is not working correct because VaM is in a write protected folder?

That's what comes to my mind at the moment.

Yup. You should give the scene you're playing. For instance, 100% of my story scenes enforce presets at load.

Do you have to use presets to enforce them to load with the scene or can they be saved as part of the scene? As mentioned in my original post, the correct clothing / hair is enabled, but it doesnt have the coloring customizations I did. Does it have anything to do with 'Preset Locks'?

I tried adding my general preset (with the clothing / hair changes ) to a person in a brand new empty scene, and only the hair loaded with the correct color upon applying the preset. Applying the same preset a second time, the clothing then changed correctly. I do have some load errors at startup because of missing dependencies, but I am not using any of those dependencies in the scene. Also tried saving this as a new scene, upon reloading, have same problem. The hair had correct color, but clothing did not. The physics changes (e.g. on elbow control) were also reset upon loading the scene.

It's very hard to answer that as you have tons of ways to enforce presets or not.
You would have to "reverse engineer" the scene to see what is forced or not.

Preset and state enforcement is done because it ensure everything is "as you expect it to be" at start, OR allows restart of the scene at the end. This is not there to annoy people on purpose ;)

I have this problem in just the default scene, too, though. what is the right way (or even just 1 way), to make sure that the hair, clothing, and physics, are saved on the person, in the scene, and correct upon load?

Ho yeah! in a default scene that should be ok.
Everything is saved in it! You don't need presets to restore a character you have customized into a scene : )

Do you have any particular plugins?

no plugins. The simplest problem is, I apply my preset to the character in the default scene (was trying general preset, but appearance preset also has this problem) , save the scene, when I reload it, it loads most of it, but the hair / clothing are wrong color.

Yup it does. You have something weird.

What model do you use? the default char? If not, try with it instead.

it's default model with custom morph. I did some more experimenting... I think the problem is with my general preset. If i apply the general preset (which has appearance included) to my scene and save it, it loads with the colors incorrect like before, and also like before if I just click load again on the general preset tab, then the colors get loaded correctly. If I load the general preset, then apply an appearance preset, and save it / load it, still have same problem. If I apply the general preset, reset to general preset to default, then apply my appearance preset, and save it, it loads properly. So there is some setting applied in the general preset that makes the 'scene load' not specific asset customizations, but manual re-lodas of the general preset do.

General presets aren't really "legacy presets" that should be avoided, but there are confusing options on them. You do not have to save a preset to have a scene load correctly. I've never used general presets. I've never had this problem. Read up on general presets here:

Make sure you have not set a default scene or session plugin that reverts things. Note also that any changes to the default scene are reverted each time you do a core repair.

HAHAHA. That's the definition of "not the default model" xD

@SlimerJSpud is right about presets. You should look at what a preset can save.

Secondly, I think we are missing an information here, and it's the way you're explaining your save/load process.
  • Are you talking about SCENE LOAD (when restoring your data)?
  • Are you talking about PRESET LOAD (when restoring your data)?
  • Or both?
You have to understand something: at the moment a setting (no matter what it is) is set in the scene, if you save the scene, that information is stored. Presets can avoid saving their name in the preset field at the bottom of all the preset tabs, but the data added to the scene itself cannot be avoided/prevented.

This is the reason why creator of advanced scene enforce presets during scenes. Because you could modify let's say, hair color or hair length during the scene and want to ensure the scene start with the default values.

On the other hand, you could have something that would reset things upon load.
I could be mistaken, but I have never seen an instance of a modified character in a scene which does not restore properly on a scene load without any specific triggers.

Could you try something?
Create an empty scene with the default girl. Change the hair color and some clothes. Save the scene, and reload it. And report here what it does : )
Also, can you send your general preset file?

I was talking about scene loads being the problem. Thought I had already explained before that loading the preset worked fine if done manually (and not through scene load), so didn't be super specific about it.

I think i figured out what the issue was, though. My general preset had VRAdultFun.ElkVR_BVH_Player on it, which I had disabled in the scene before saving, but this plugin happens to get re-enabled automatically when you load the scene, and for some reason that plugin messes up the scene loading of the character customizations as described earlier. This plugin has to be removed (not just disabled) before saving the scene. I know i mentioned i hadn't used any plugins before, but I thought it was disabled. There are some other bugs with that plugin too, like the animation speed being roughly half, until you increase the speed to 100.01%, but this was the only bvh player that worked well for me, don't want to get off topic, though, but can mark this thread as resolved. Thanks
