VaM 1.x Waiting for character load

I've got a problem with a few scenes I edited recently - they get stuck with a message "Paused - Waiting For: Character Load: Tina" (or Kayla on one of them) and the figure in the scene looks all messed up, with another scalp hovering above the original one and eyeballs popping out and really long fingers. Any ideas how I can recover these scenes? I tried restarting, and checking core integrity, and that didn't fix it...

Your json file is probably broken. It's highly unlikely you'll find a way to restore them. Besides using the original scene.
