This plugin is currently only useable on person atoms, not as session plugins yea? Also I see that the built-in vam skin material settings aren't compatible with this and its custom shader, is it possible though since this is beta that in the future that can change? Maybe the plugin can read data from the built in material tab and translate it into the plugin data? Some person looks for example load with different color settings on the skin so I hope a future update can find a work around so that they look good with this new SSS plugin!

Yep for now it is loaded on each person atom, In the future i might look into supporting the skin materials tab or at least the relevant parameters from it for sure (y)

this is awesome, i like the original sss but the fps tank was too big to use it for regular scene except for screen archery, truly amazing , you just earned a subscriber

Praise be...an SSS option from a more trustworthy creator!

Looking forward to seeing how this develops and will probably be supporting ASAP. My favorite look uses Ashu's toon shader plugin and as such is probably incompatible (can SSS even do anything on a toon shaded model?), but there are tons of other realistic models I enjoy that would benefit greatly.

How big is the difference in performance?

HUGE. When i tried the other one I barely got 15 fps. Your implementation literally works out the box (i.e. no paramters to adjust for it to look good, already looks great).

Cant wait until we can get YOUR SSS to work with skin micro details

Skynet updated SkinSSS - Subsurface Scattering & Custom Skin Shading (Beta) with a new update entry:

Update v2

-- New features & Improvements:
- New more accurate SSS approximation with a fixed diffusion profile based on the Jimenez method.
- New Adaptive tessellation method for maximum performance.
- Optimized to take up less than 1ms of frame-time even with highest settings. compared to previous v1 which took about 2ms to 3ms.
- Better preservation of skin complexity details.
- Better integration of the GGX Reflectance shading model with a toggle to disable...

If I understand the update correctly, does "Similar base shader workflow to vam's to better preserve the original look's diffuse, specular & gloss textures" mean that it now works off native materials data when loading looks?

yep now it is fully compatible with all of vam's person skin material parameters & texture slots. You won't be limited to the plugin's UI parameters anymore

Amazing! Already subbed to try it out and not disappointed! Another amazing job as usual from you Skynet once again! Only thing it's missing (and I know already on your radar) is the update to allow loading as a session plugin. 🥰

thanks! glad you enjoy it. and yes i am planning to convert it to a session plugin soon, as it will allow running it on multiple person atoms with the same performance cost as running it on one (y)
