• Happy Holidays Guest!

We want to announce that we will be working at reduced staffing for the holidays. Specifically Monday the 23rd until Jan 2nd.

This will affect approval queue times and responses to support tickets. Please adjust your plans accordingly and enjoy yourselves this holiday season!

  • Hi Guest!

Please be aware that we have released a critical security patch for VaM. We strongly recommend updating to version 1.22.0.7 using the VaM_Updater found in your installation folder.

Six Chair Mocaps - My first short Mocaps, hope someone can get a use of them

Hi,

I ordered myself some new Vive Ultimate Trackers and am an absolute beginner with Mocap.
I tried some sitting centered Mocaps, and thought: why not sharing?

Included are simple Stand Up/Sit Down, 3 looping Idles and a turn around with booty shake.
They are far from perfect, at the moment I can only use 5 Trackers (planning to go with 8 if they finally support up to 10), and I am still learning that stuff., especially how to overcome the countless roadbricks ;)

I plan to release...

I got 2 bundles containing 3 trackers, an USB dongle and 3 straps, they sell at 600.
A single tracker is 229

Maybe I am doing something wrong, but when I import these into their own segment (it wont let me stick in an existing) it moves the model to some other location. I can move her back where I want, but when the animation plays back she goes to the default. How do I just add the idles to where I have the model at the moment?

Unfortunately there's no easy way. You can play with Timelines settings ("Move relative to root" under the Bulk changes tab, but it will never be perfect.
It's a Timeline/VAM limitation which I also don't know how to work around

ok i will give your suggestion a try, VAM doesnt make things very easy oftentimes, lots of workarounds!

that seems to be sufficient, will need a few tweaks but that will get me there, thanks again.

hi
I also bought an ultimate tracker this time and
SteamVR recognizes the hip tracking but
VAM recognizes only the legs, do you know how to fix it?
Please give me some know-how

Hi,

you only bought 1 tracker?

Anyway, you use the Vive hub to pair it, make a mapping and calibrate it.
If its up and running, it should be recognized by SteamVR automatically.
You then have to apply a VAM supported role to it (see link) and start VAM through SteamVR.

If a correct role was applied, VAM should also auto-detect it now.
I strongly recommend using the Embody plugin and run the Vive wizard initially.
Profit.

Turns out I should have set up SteamVR and restarted it.
After that, it's working fine.
Embody's Snug setup is too difficult
How to solve the part where the face position waist position is different between characters.
I'm worried
Thank you for your answer and have a good day

You don't need the snug part of it, that it's anyway a game of luck.

Just use the Vive Wizard, it's far from complicated.
Setting trackers up the right way without using Embody is complicated ;)

For different characters which have a different scale/shape/proportions, just run the wizard again, it's a one minute thing.
And before starting VAM, make sure you have calibrated your tracker in Steam, so that it reflects its exact physical position.

I thought I could just buy a tracker and it would be easy to make motion capture, but it seems to be more difficult and laborious.
Especially when the lost tracking shows up, it drives me crazy.
I didn't realize the importance of mapping until I spent 2 days with it. Also, if I change the layout of the room, it gets stuck in an infinite loop and I have to reset the USB.
This is a really messed up tracker
I'm lucky now that if I lose a tracker, it fixes it.
I'll keep this in mind. Thanks

Loosing tracking with them was just a disease, but I have it very very rarely after the latest updates.
When mapping your room, its best with blinds down (no daylight) and have good lighting. Doesn't need to be too bright, but avoid having too much shadows left.
It also hates bland walls and such, since it needs references.

If you then remap it and have a good result, loosing tracking should be no big problem anymore, unless you cover both cameras of the tracker at the same time.
I use 5 of them and 3 emulated from Virtual Desktop, and in the meantime they fixed most of the annoying things, I have almost no problem left using them.

But with only one tracker, good mocap would be challenging, lol. I mean you can move your hip, thats it.

And even if you have the typical 11 points setup, mocap and the post processing is still an art.
