These days I often find anime-style models to be more interesting WITHOUT trying to use the CelShader. It's still just a little too wonky tbh.

Ultimately, good lighting (such as the really nice setup in EZhustler's "[MMD Stage] Photo Studio" scene) and the right base textures are all you need to get a solid look.
