I am very new to VAM and don't use VR.

Is there a way to possess an atom's hands using mouse and keyboard, or does that require a VR setup?

Bugger. I thought that would be the case!

Can anyone recommend any scenes that just play on their own and don't require to possess and control the characters?

From my experience, the biggest part of all scenes don't require to possess one of the figures. Even not in scenes created with VR in mind. If you have to possess a figure, it is often mentioned in the description. There are many VaM users without VR.
