Just wanted to share a simple free tool I use to really add depth and ambiance to any VAM scene:

It’s Nemo’s Dreamscapes YouTube channel. He overlays mostly calm, oldies music with the sounds of rain, or the sounds of a large party or gathering downstairs, etc.

To Add to a scene I simply add a web browser and push it outside of a wall, then play whatever dreamscape matches my scene the best.

For instance, I LOVE Norm’s classic 1940s-1950s environments, such as Berlin:

When I make a simple scene using the Berlin environment I then add a Nemo Dreamscape like

Or any of the hundreds of others he has. I especially enjoy multiple overlays, such as oldies playing in another room while there’s a party downstairs and crickets are chirping outside. It adds SO MUCH to a simple scene, and matches perfectly to Norms old style environments.

Nemo only had oldies for the most part, if anyone has any other music overlays from different genres I’d love to hear those too!

not music but I recommend railcowgirl on YT, live train cabin rides.

on oculus (rift at least?) you can pin & resize virtual desktops and they work with VaM, seamless if you move only roomscale mode. Sort of like having an atom that's a desktop or window screen. I think it's one of the best things about vam and nobody knows about it lol. so you can use a bus asset (or train if you find one) and outside of it you place the window screen with a channel like that on full screen and at max size & curved. It will feel pretty convincingly like travelling, it's very relaxing and a nice experience taking in the views.

this technique can be used to play games within vam too. Play Civ6 on a table inside VaM. Or use a spaceship asset and put the window of flat Elite Dangerous outside the windshield. I used to play Football Manager and watch the matches from an improvised stand in VaM, worked quite convincingly.

the idea is that even if the video/window is 2d, if it's of a distant scene and you add 3d vam stuff above it, it's gonna fool your brain that it's 3d

That’s awesome, SPQR!! I’ve got the perfect train environment for it too! Never even heard of railcowgirl, that’s exactly the sort of thing I was hoping to find, never considered going next level with visuals too through a window like you recommend.

that’s what makes this community great!

i tried to do a standalone train scene like that with a video included in it and skip youtube but i can't find a long video that's copyright-free and longer than a few seconds 😭 i might try to buy one from one of these guys, i'm sure they're excited to see their cabins travel to pornland too

for audio, you can go the extra mile and add extra sound loops around directly in vam that are gonna be 3d/spatial and make the experience a bit better. I have a few sounds like that in AEStudio for anyone interested

I haven’t played with AEStudio enough yet, I’ll give it a shot on Monday. I’ve been playing around with Alive and Doll and I’ve had a blast so far!

Wow! I love Nemo's dreamscapes for studying or work. Yet I never thought to use them as ambiance in VaM. What a great idea!!! o_O
