I use MacGrubers Logic Bricks Scene Event loader to put music into scenes but in some scenes the mp3s don't show up and I can't figure out why. I have a folder of my custom sounds in Vam_Updater>Custom>Sounds but suspect this path may be the problem.

/Custom/Sounds/ is the right place to have local audio files ?
There's many ways to put music on a scene, you can try out other ways. I never tried that logicbrick, curious to try it now.
Anyway, you can use the Scene Animator on auto-play to trigger that music, among other options:
