I'm a bit torn on where to put some content. For example:

If I assume that "General" is meant to be the go to Category for straight males, then this would be pretty uninteresting for those looking for säxy Görl pics.
But it's also not extremely LGBT+, either.
For a dick-out Solo Male shot I'd put it in there, yes. Although handsome solo dudes are also quite attractive for the female audience (guess that counts as the "+" )...

I guess this one here would be more of a "neutral" case, because it's not exactly sexual. It would probably fit more into a "Misc" or "SFW" category or similar...
I think it might be interesting for straight males who are interested in the rendering and assets and who think it's cool, so putting it in LGBT+ "hides" it more or less for them :-/

What do you think?

Thinking about it I'd even favour a solid tagging & filtering system above a ton of categories.

There are always cases where something fits in multiple categories. Or is fluid between categories. Or doesn't really fit 100% in a category...

I agree with you @kemenate however I know that some people react strongly to non conventional porn (or even slightly different sexual orientations or identities). I kind of like the idea of "deal with it guys" but I know if someone comes to the site and just see a ton of futa images, they may go away and never come back. At least a basic entry level categorization would go a long way to help adoption.

Oooor VaM can become a kink haven where people can freely express their sexuality, which would reduce its popularity but give it purpose. It's not a super business move but I'd love to see this.

Yep, I agree. To be greeted by hardcore BDSM torture is also not exactly "welcoming"
The "Genenal" is now the only stream displayed on the "What's new" page. And that's probably the safest bet.
So for more main categories I'd say:
- Kinky (maybe even with a warning or Spoiler Overlays over every image)
- SFW / Artistic (no nudity)
- Misc for WIP screenshots and random shitposts

I was wondering if it might make sense to add subcategories to General:
Hardcore vs Softcore/Pinup/Erotica.
I keep this seperate on my own imgbb galleries (and my PCs "anatomy reference" folders).
But this might work better as filtered tags. If people tag their stuff.

Is there a way to dynamically display top tags of one category? Then this could serve as "subcategories" and theres no need to granulate ...

Actually that made me notice that it's difficult to see in what category a given image is. The category shows up as "Items":

Maybe "Futa Images", "Futa Videos" under "Futa" for example could be an easy fix.

I have done a few things:
  • Added SFW/Artistic categories
  • Fixed all sub-categories to have parent category name in them so it is obvious when you are looking at the media item where it is
  • Added Futa and LGBT+ media hide option to user preferences
If we add BDSM/Hardcore categories, I would guess hide for those should also be added. But the default public view is to see everything. You have to register to select the hide options. I don't like public hiding of content personally because it makes it harder for people interested in that to find it. People will just have to deal. :)
