Just wondering if anyone has tried this. Ive been wanting to do this and was it worth the effort?

Only if you want to screw up your VaM with endless files you can never clean properly.

The reasons for NOT doing this are too numerous to list, not the least of which is making updates a nightmare.

I've done it for a few just to get the morphs out so that I can use them on other characters (for some reason some if not all of the morphs in var packages do not show up in the morph tab unless that specific scene is loaded). It probably is not a good idea, but it works for me. I have also taken textures out this way as well.

That's permitted as long as you follow the license terms.

For morphs, you can check the Preload Morphs button in the Package Manager Preferences tab to make the morphs appear. That makes that other var a dependency, but that may not matter to you.

I admit, I used to do this years ago when I did not trust the initial release of the packaging system. In hindsight, I regret doing it, especially if you decide later to share your work, you will have to fix all the links to be able to post it, and in the end, it was not really beneficial to do it. So, I would say, in hindsight, you will eventually regret it. ;)
