Question Hair color and lighting

I have this odd issue where hair color defaults to black unless my lighting is EXTREMELY bright. So bright that it washes out the face and skin. This is only for hair. Clothing shows color just fine. Is there a setting on hair that defines how sensitive it is to lighting, or something?

Check the shadow quality under your settings. Below Medium causes light issues for me. If yo u have to keep it on low, upping the global illum under the hair might help.

Other than that, use a scene with only one light and mess with it a bit before moving on to advanced lighting.
