Question FPS Drop/Laggy When Zooming In

if i zoom in closely on models in scenes, my fps drops drastically and scenes get very laggy. even in the default scene from a distance where i can view the entire model from head to toe, my fps is around 150. however, if i zoom in on her bellybutton for example, my fps drops to around 100. is this normal? just wondering. thx.
