I would like to change skin materials for the body only to create more gloss for example, but do not want this effect on the face. Is that possible?

The Skin Textures tab has separate channels for Diffuse, Gloss, Specular, Normal, and Decal. Each one has 4 slots for face, torso, limbs and gens. It sounds like what you want is higher gloss in some areas than others. What you can do is find a set of free textures that give you the desired effect on the torso, limbs and gens, then darken the gloss/spec files for the face in a photo editor to reduce the effect. The torso, limbs and gens should remain the same, or you will have visible seams. If you're good at photo editing, you could do some blending at the seams, like in the neck area.
