Better Pubes

Hairstyles Better Pubes

Yeah, I do this too. Very silly how root spread is very limited, would be so much more helpful. Maybe then Hair Multiplier would not be such a detriment too.
One more thing I forgot to mention is never use the 'Panty Scalp' for pubes. The hair mask arrangement is too spread out. After some digging I found that Kemenate released an alternate pube scalp five years ago. It can be found in the kemenate.Female_Body_Hair.var, which I'm sure you already have (does it come with VaM?). This is the mask I used for all (I believe) of the pubes in this resource.

The actual duf file is not included in the var, but you can load up a hair asset called 'Scalp Pubic', which is just the custom scalp. The arrangement of the mask nodes is much tighter around the pubic area than the basic panty scalp, plus there are mask nodes covering a much larger area.

I also found a reddit post by Kemenate about making custom scalp masks https://www.reddit.com/r/VirtAMate/wiki/hairstyling-customscalpguide/, but I can't seem to find anything about how the arrangement and density of the mask nodes are set on the scalp. It seems to me that the mask nodes are somehow directly related to the skinned mesh polygons of the Gen2 model itself, but there's some mysterious way of flagging which polys have mask nodes and which dont.

Metix updated Better Pubes with a new update entry:

Added presets for sim hair

I created presets for each of the four pube styles:

  • Add collision and sim physics
  • Normalized color and lighting for each pube style
The sim physics settings that I added in these presets is very lightweight and is as close to real pube behavior as I could make it with the current limitations of the hair editor. I decided to go with presets as opposed to updating each model in case anyone was already using the styles and didn't want a forced update. Each preset is named...

I think I tried making something once, but then it saved corrupted or something and it wouldn't load. Maybe it's in conflict with something, but I never touched it since. Plus it's kinda hard to make any hairstyles within VAM without VR so I ditched the idea. Maybe I'll try again and who knows maybe I'll post it

Nice work!

By the way, me too! I'm a pube guy - not au naturelle like a giant thicket, but with some appropriate topiary applied, and I'm in heaven.

If anyone's interested I asked ChatGPT why pubic hair exists on women and it said, among other theories, that it came through evolution and was to denote when a female became sexually mature. In other words, back in caveman days: "Man see hairy thatch downstairs on female. Man mate female, female have babies! Tribe propagates!" :D

Thanks!

I'm sure pubes have multiple purpose, and signaling fertility not among the least of them. I've always understood that, like armpit hair, one of the main functions is technically lubrication. Two slabs of pube covered flesh rubbing against each other is far more slippery than shaved skin, prevents chafing too!

Indeed, ask anyone who shaved their asscrack and they'll tell you the pain they went through after. No I have never tried. No I don't know anyone personally. Yes, it was probably an Urban Legend.

The purpose of pubic hair is to simply protect the area and to keep warm and moisturized , not an urban legend. The pubic skin is more sensitive than the arms or legs, and more prone for irritation or infection, That's all there is to it.

I've finally taken a look at something I've been putting off for a long time (because the hair editor can be a real PITA!). When the sim and collision presets are used, vaginal penetration can cause some of the pubes here to collide with whatever phallus you pervs put inside your lady, causing them to sim out in a way that kinda sucks. Under further inspection, the curl settings I've used on some of the sets cause the ends of some of the hairs to twist back and invert internally.

Basically these pubes have a really nasty case of ingrown hair. Other than making the tips completely rigid (which would defeat the entire purpose of the sim) I would have either remake them from scratch or do some super precise straight razor work. Also, reducing the curl settings would change the appearance in a way that would not be acceptable to my pube aesthetic. I might be able to remove the offending strands from the mask, but I offer no guarantees. At least I now know what causes this behavior, so any pube work I do going forward will be more informed that it was before.

As a workaround, if you're comfortable toggling stuff with triggers, just disable collision upon penetration, probably using ChezzyFX's BodyLanguage suite, then reenable after removal for manual grooming procedures.

Making new pubes is not on my short list, but someday (no idea when) I will revisit.

Until then, pube on my pube-lovin' friends!

In general, I find that all body hair and pubes are better in Vam with sim disabled. IRL, pubes do not waft back and forth during sex. They get pushed around, but that's collision, not sim. Pubes are too short to move around on their own.

While I agree with you in sentiment, it actually depends. If you just go with default settings, then yes, it's pretty bad. I spent a fair amount of time adjusting the physics settings to see what could be possible, and feel that I was mostly successful. There are presets for each set of pubes in this pack. Before you write off the idea entirely, I recommend maybe giving them a try. If you have VR, enable the floating hands, and possibly adjust physics cap to taste. It's not perfect but it's certainly not what you're describing. Also, as far as I could figure out, collision only seems to have an effect on native hair if sim is enabled. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
