Picky!👉📋

Dynamic Atom visibility via control over "Hidden" atoms! Organize atoms into pages / layers. Show what you want, hide the mess!

Ever get sick of toggeling certain Atoms "Hidden" or not based on what needs doing? Now, you don't have to! Picky is a visibility manager for your scene. You sort atoms into named pages-- think of them as layers-- and selecting a page instantly hides everything else and reveals only what's on that page. Atom's can be added to multiple pages, allowing you to create groups of specific Atoms.

⚙️ Why Use Picky?

If you've ever built a scene with a dozen props you only want visible at certain moments, or you'd like to focus on just a Person Atom for animation, you know the pain: hunting through the atom list toggling Hidden on twenty things at a time, and losing track of which ones you already did.

Picky replaces that with a page switcher. Set up your pages once, then flip between them from a HUD bar without ever opening the plugin panel.

Features

Page management

  • Unlimited named pages, reorderable, renameable.
  • Add atoms by browsing a list, or by grabbing whatever's selected in the scene.
  • Fuzzy search everywhere.
  • Hide already added filter so you only see atoms you haven't filed yet.
  • Multi-selects in the picker and Pages: check several atoms or pages, add/toggle them all at once.
  • An ON PAGES column showing when an atom lives on more than one page.
  • Click any atom row to select that atom in the scene.

Show several pages at once

Shift+click to display multiple pages together-- Picky reveals the union of their atoms. A Multi mode makes every click additive for VR, where there's no Shift key. Deselect turns everything off in one go.

HUD page switcher

A page bar mounted on VaM's own HUD, so you can switch pages without opening the plugin.

  • Drag it anywhere by its handle.
  • Horizontal row or vertical column to fit your view.
  • Minimize to a small nameplate.
  • Optional buttons for Edit/Play, Show Targets and Show Hidden.
  • A tools row for + Page, Rename, Delete, Multi and Deselect-- nearly full page management from the HUD.

Atoms window

A second, independently movable in-world panel listing every atom on the pages you're displaying. Click a row to select that atom in the scene, remove atoms directly, or flip it into an add-picker with its own fuzzy search!

Everything else

  • Trigger actions for every page plus next/previous, deselect, show-all and more-- drive Picky from buttons, Timeline, or Keybindings. Why? Unsure.
  • Lock the whole setup before sharing a scene so nobody accidentally disturbs it.
  • Save and load page setups as standalone files, reusable across scenes-- although probably very rare!
  • Resizable plugin window, adjustable UI scale, optional tooltips, several color themes.
  • A full in-plugin help page.

Notes

Show Hidden Atoms. VaM's own Show Hidden Atoms setting overrides everything Picky does-- while it's on, hidden atoms are visible anyway and your pages stop controlling what you see. Because that's confusing, Picky makes it loud: the HUD turns amber, page buttons fade out, and a warning banner appears in the atom list. There's a toggle for it right on the HUD.

The plugin's own atom is never hidden. Hiding it would hide the UI and leave no way to undo it.

UI scaling resizes the whole plugin window when Picky runs on an atom. As a session/scene plugin there's no per-atom panel to resize, so scaling affects the plugin's own area only.

One honest limitation: VaM lets a plugin set Show Hidden and Show Targets but not read them (as far as I know!), and the plugin sandbox blocks the usual workaround. Picky tracks these itself and pushes its saved state onto VaM when a scene loads, so the buttons are normally correct. If you toggle either from VaM's own UI, the button colour can end up backwards-- there are one-click "flip colour" buttons to resync it with VaM, explained in the help page.

🤝 Feedback & Iteration
These systems are actively evolving. If something breaks, feels unclear, or could be better– say it! The goal is to refine this into something the community can rely on. The point is usability and to work in the background. Always open to suggestions on improvements!
