I have a suggestion that you should add a parameter when tracking the target, set a threshold, and do not turn (or slowly turn to track) when you do not deviate from the target threshold, beyond which you can track the precise position of the target.
This plugin already has that functionality.
Try adjusting Dead Zone and Moving Factor.

Feature suggestion:

When Searchlight is on a person atom make it point from the head instead of the person's root point.
Then it could be used in combination AcidBubbles's Embody to control the "possessed" view / head automatically.
May have to lock the rotation in Embody for it to work.

I use this Embody + Searchlight combination a lot on an Empty-atom or InvisibleLight-atom to use it as camera.
Also very effective at lighting a scene with just one "POV-light" like that .... frames per second go brrrrrr on potato GPU. ;)

Edit:
Never mind. I just realized Embody itself can already track / point to the a person:eyeTargetControl. Can even smooth the view's rotation under Configure Passenger ...

Sorry. I'm not good at English, so I read it using Google Translate, but I couldn't understand it well.
Does your proposal involve adding new functionality to the Searchlight plugin? Or is it a proposal for a new usage?
If it is a proposal for a new usage, is it the same as klphgz's proposal on Jan 31, 2022 in this discussion section?

Forget and ignore my post. I was stupid. 🫠
It was about new functionality, but it is not needed.
Embody can already do what I wanted with the eye target.

Sorry I wasted your time. Enjoy your weekend and time with VAM.(y)

ky1001 updated Searchlight with a new update entry:

Update(ver.12)

Update (ver.12):
When used as a so-called CamRide that moves in combination with animation and Embody, the subject may not be stable depending on the Physics Rate. I added an option to switch to "FixedUpdate" because there are cases where using "FixedUpdate" as an internal update of the plugin improves the situation. Try this if the subject is not stable.

Hello.I was looking for a plugin to track a target and found your work. It's exactly the feature I was looking for, and it's a fantastic job. Thank you for making it.

I have one request, would that be okay?I was looking for a plugin to make particles track the target direction, but it seems that the initial direction of particles is not only on the Z-axis but also on the X and Y axes.I think it would be even more convenient if the reference axis could be changed to the X or Y axis. What do you think?Currently, I'm using the Searchlight plugin on an ATOM, then parenting another ATOM to it and correcting its orientation before use.Thank you for reading.

Sorry, I don't quite understand the situation. Are particles a CUA? Can you show me a scene that might help?

I have thought about this in my own way. Is this correct? Please confirm.

I'm sorry for not noticing your early reply.
I was asleep. The particles are from CUA.
I was trying things out with particles from Farger and Xstatic.

Did you really add the feature so quickly?! I'm surprised!
I've already tried it, and it's exactly what I needed, which is fantastic.
Thank you for kindly responding to my sudden request.
Thank you for your hard work. I hope you have a great day.

Update (ver.13)

Updates (ver. 13):
It was pointed out that some blow-out-type partials were blowing out in directions other than the Z axis, so I added the ability to select the X, Y, or Z axis to follow the target. Thanks to @kohakyuuu for the suggestion.
The default is Z. If the blow-out direction is reversed, turn on the "Reverse" toggle. Also, if the partial appears upside down, try changing the "Vector3 direction" to something other than "None."
