I don't think VaM has built in finger control.
Like the full body tracking in VaM it would require some extra work/plugins to have the hands follow the movement. Certainly not a problem, but I don't think it's built in.
I very much would like to see the Quest 2 hand tracking mapped correctly into VaM if anybody has any idea how to do that! If the data is available via OSC then some standard OSC plugins for VaM are the way to go I think.
I don't know if things have changed since then, but I think VAM does, at least now, if you use the alvr nightly version with a quest you get full finger tracking in vam, as in individual finger tracking.. But I have no idea how easy that would be to implement, nor do I know if alvr somehow "cheats" and passes the finger tracking off as being leap motion or something like that
 
ALVR uses index controller emulation. The index has basic finger position sensing built into the "knuckles" controllers. ALVR emulates them and passes the finger positions to steam. I haven't tried it so don't know how VaM integrates specific finger positions in SteamVR.
There is a NEW solution, one that seems pretty good.

If you have a Quest 2/3 you can add index style finger tracking as a stick on addition to the controllers, it uses a wireless dongle on the PC.
They are reasonably priced so if you really want some "basic" finger tracking check this out,

I am tempted myself but not sure I am that desperate for finger tracking.
 
You can just use leap motion for full finger tracking. its already built into VaM

Yes, true. However the contactsheet allows you to still use the controllers for movement and doesn't require special mounting for "another" box on your headset or chest.
It's just an option I thought people would like to know about. I personally don't want finger tracking that costs me the use of the sticks to move.
 
I recently discovered there is an OPEN version of bHaptics hardware that you can put on an esp-wroom-32 dev board and build your own haptics devices.
I have started building a haptic vest but there is no reason you can't make a glove just as easily.


You can get little vibration motors from aliexpress super cheap as well so it's easy to make.
