Hi! When I download a character from the hub, it comes as a scene. So I go into the scene in order to save it as appearance. When I then load them in another scene as appearence, they often don't have hair.
I've checked, there's no hair under "Hair", so I guess it's some sort of different asset? How can I save a character so that the hair comes along?

Search the hub for how to deal with CUA hair. In some models, the hair is not hair, in the Vam sense. It's basically a prop. One thing you can do with a character that has CUA hair is to strip down the scene they came in to almost nothing and save that as a scene. Then you can do a merge load of that basic scene to get the character into another scene. If what you want is to swap out one appearance for another in a pre-existing scene, then you'll have to learn how to use CUA hair. I don't use that, but this is a common problem.

Hmmm. I also don't understand why sometimes characters are missing. For instance, I own "Aerith" (from FF7) from the hub. Hub says "in library" but I cannot find it. Typing in the creators name or aerith into my scene search window doesn't show her. I'm also having the same issue with Lucy from Cyberpunk 2077: Downloaded from the hub, shows "in library", but it's not there.

You already asked 2 questions here and I think you have many more, but suit yourself.

A direct answer would be great, so that I don't have to search 12 long articles for hopefully finding that one single short information I'm looking for.

The issue could be numerous perhaps you should read the guides and git gud. Aerith appears to be just a look so trying to find it under scenes won't work. this is an appearance preset not a scene. Lucy I dunno but probably the same.

Unfortunately no, I already checked this. I did set the slider to show 1500 looks (I don't have that many) and tried "Lucy" or "edgerunners" or the creators name, nothing made it show up.

Hell, the main scene browser doesn't even work properly. I have choosen to sort it from "new to old" but it doesn't show the newest scenes at the top.

I've been a VAM user for a longer period of time now and know many things, so reading basic guides would require me to go through all the basics again.

I mean imagine you're trying to build up a new chair you purchased and you've got one question. Do you search for that particular problem or do you spend a couple of days learning everything about how to set up chairs with tons of info you don't need now or already know?

I had this problem recently and when I tried to do a core repair through the VAM Updater I got a "fatal error".

That's how I knew my drive was full 😂 That's usually the issue *FOR ME*, but also reading the past few posts with Atani answering, it might also be a CUA hair, especially for anime or video game style characters.

I still have 138GB of free space on my hard drive, and what has the CUA hair to do with entire characters missing?

I was referring specifically to when you mentioned characters are available but their hair isn't, and it's also the main subject of the thread.

Your questions sound like what a new user would ask, so either you don't know as much as you think you do or you have bigger problems than what is common.

Your questions:

Very common newbie question as CUA hair is not saved in an appearance preset. Answer is in the FAQ guide category but also already presented by others here.

I own "Aerith" (from FF7) from the hub. Hub says "in library" but I cannot find it. Typing in the creators name or aerith into my scene search window doesn't show her. I'm also having the same issue with Lucy from Cyberpunk 2077:
You're looking for a scene, but maybe those VARs don't have scenes. only appearance presets. Also a very common newbie question.

If you search and don't find an answer, then you should indeed relearn things.

so either you don't know as much as you think you do

Same goes for you, since

you're clearly not knowledgable about how to solve this either. If you had any reading comprehension, you would've realized I already said I know about those two ways of storing characters. Neither of them works for this specific asset. So pointing me to resources that tell me to look where I already looked isn't helpful in particular.

If this is the Aerith you have, that's a paid resource. You should contact the creator on their Patreon for support on how to load it. People here may not have that paid resource, so they may not be able to help.

Is the file you downloaded a .var file, or a .zip file? Some paid resources do not have standard installations. Again, contact the creator.

No, it's the free one: https://hub.virtamate.com/resources/aerith.66111/overview-panel

As you can see, all dependencies are there. She doesn't appear in my appearances and also not in the scenes list. Tried "Aerith" and also "Jacky" for the search, nothing.

There are multiple free Aerith models. If you want help with something, please be more specific. This one is just as described, an Appearance Preset. You need to load the default character, or a scene with a character in it, then load the appearance preset. It's not the same as a Look preset, those are obsolete. If you push the right buttons, the Aerith model works just fine.

Weird, now Aerith does appear where she didn't before. After I searched for her on the left side as in your screenshot, she also now appears when I search for her on the right side. Is there a difference between these two?

Because if her name is Aerith I expect all Aerith named models to show up when I search for it on the right side too, no?

You might have been in the default starting point for the search which is local presets in Custom/Atom/Person/Appearance. You have to switch to AddonPackages Filtered like I did before entering any search string. Once you do that, the search should give the same results in the left or the right. The left side kind of remembers what you typed, the right doesn't.

I always choose "all/flattened" on the left side and then search with the right search bar. As far as I understand, that will list all assets that you own. Well, up to 1500, but that's far beyond the amounts I have.

Flattened is basically useless if you have a lot of stuff. All does include local assets, which is not what you want in this case.

It's seems to be the only place that shows all assets. The other options are just limited sub-folders with not all of my contents. Or where do you recommend I should preferably check?

If you've organized your AddonPackages folder into sub-folders, then it's on you to keep track of that. My point was, if you push the right buttons, the Aerith model works just fine. Any problem you have with that model is on your end.
