Bulma - Toon shading experiment

This look is my attempt to recreate a cartoon art style with simplistic high contrast shading. I used some really nice looking AI images of Bulma from rule34 as a reference (the ones from pinku.ai). My art skills aren't the best but I feel like the highlights and shadows look alright for the most part. Also the hair might be a little bit janky since my modelling skills are at a novice level. Anyways, I hope people enjoy the final results.

There are three versions included for comparison and...

Absolutely awesome.

It's a bit tough trying to edit the sides of the face to allow for a side profile view (Toriyama eyes and VaM don't mix well), but this is still the best DB character import by far.

Like you, I'm sticking with Ashu's toon shader although I did supplement with bqbq's outline plugin for this next one. I also played around with Skynet's PostFX plugin to try to achieve something closer to a "manga" look using the SSAO (functional AO in VaM! Glorious):

Only thing I wasn't able to make happen was a full outline on the hair CUA, regardless of render queue manips and the two outline/shader options.

Whatever though. Skynet's a god, you're a god...who friggin' cares about VaM 2.0

There aren't a lot of DB characters on the Hub but I'm still glad you consider this among the best! Also I like all your shots trying out different configurations. I didn't even think of trying to replicate a manga style and your version shows it off really nice.

Having the CUA hair without the outline was my preference and I didn't consider people may want it outlined unfortunately. I'm not sure why applying it manually with the plugin isn't working. I may have to release an update that has an outlined version in the hair's asset dropdown list if there's no workaround.

Edit: I've figured out a workaround. The attached shader properties .json file has a toggle property that should allow the shader to work on CUAs. It seems like this might be an oversight with the plugin unless it's expected that this property is included with every shader, or that there needs to be separate versions just for CUAs. Also, FYI the outline width is like 10x bigger with CUAs for some reason, it might be worth it for me to make a seperate version of the shader to fix that at least.

Is there a way to apply this cell shaded filter to entire scenes? It would be great to get some use out of all the great Anime characters on the HUB.

Is this considered cell shading? The Hunting-Succubus plugin seems more closer to that.

Anyways, for an entire scene to use the shader the Custom Shader Loader would need to be updated to handle that or someone would have to develop another plugin to do it. Everything in the scene would also have to be designed to work unlit as well. Basically it would need all lighting to be "pre-rendered" with baked shadows and highlights into every texture.

You can try using bqbq's CUA toon shader if you're attempting to affect the same style on environmental CUAs, although it can be really resource-intensive (particularly on complicated assets).

Ashu's shader plugin also has a CUA version as an option. It's simpler but it doesn't have any way to target individual elements of the CUA, so it's better used on things like certain hair CUAs.

For example, in this capture I was applying one of the CUA toon shaders (can't remember which now) to TacoCat's "Greek Ruins" CUA environment. It's a subtle effect that doesn't fully achieve the intended look, but you can at least see the flattened shadows on the pillars. I think it's also being applied on the mountain asset in the background, but that's even harder to distinguish.
