The file isn't in .VAR format.

I think.This is completly pack with look,scene and morph.You must extract pack file and next go to the look,scene and save this to abandoned package.At last i did it when i downloaded the whole package with all the trimmings and i never had a problem.Otherwise,i can upload here purely the appearance.This should no longer problem.But must save custom - atom - person- general.And open it with general preset.

I can open it just fine. Use the add-on package builder. Saving it as a .json file, no one knows if you used other looks that may not be allowed to be used in your own model(s).
