How to Become a Paid Creator

Becoming a paid creator on the Hub means being allowed to sell what you make: posting resources in the Paid and Paid Early Access categories, sharing demos of paid work, and adding Patreon, subscription, purchase or donation links to your resources so people can support you. Plenty of creators here earn real money doing exactly that.

To become a paid creator, you must apply for Verified Creator status. It's a one-time review by the moderation team, and once you have it you get a badge on your profile and the paid side of the Hub opens up to you.

This page explains how to get verified, what the application asks for, and what we've seen work for the creators who've done it well.

Why we ask this of you

VaMHub charges creators nothing to list paid content or promote a Patreon. There's no cut and no listing fee — the Hub takes nothing from what you earn. That's a perk we offer in return for genuine contribution to the community.

The free catalogue is the heart of the Hub. It's what brings people here in the first place, and it's what gives paid content an audience at all. Verified Creator status is how we keep that trade fair: if you want to sell to this community, we ask that you contribute to it too.

The path

1. Learn the tools and the community. If you're new to VaM, start with some community guides like var packaging or scene creation. Make sure you read and understand the Site Policies before you post anything — most rejections we issue are for things the policies already spell out. Get to know the forums; ask questions; see what people are looking for.

2. Release free content. This is the part that matters. Put out work you're proud of, in whatever you make — looks, scenes, clothing, hair, plugins, textures, assets. Package it properly, credit what isn't yours, and pay attention to what people respond to. Several polished pieces count for far more than many quick ones.

3. Apply. Once your account is at least 60 days old and you have a body of free work behind you, apply at https://hub.virtamate.com/verified-creator/. It takes a few minutes. You can also reach this link from the Support dropdown in the main menu.

What we look for

When the moderation team reviews an application, we're looking at four things:

- Free contributions. A body of free work released on the Hub. There's no set number — enough for us to see what you make and how you make it. We want releases that took real effort, that add something to the ecosystem, and that people actually use. Demos, previews and limited-access content don't count as free contributions.

- Effort and quality. Whether your free work reflects the level of effort and craft the community expects from someone selling content here. This is a judgment call by the moderation team, and we'll be honest about that. It is not a rating of you as a person, and "not yet" is a normal outcome.

- Original work. No evidence that your work is copied from another creator, pirated, or in violation of any license. Dependencies and credits are in order. If you've used assets you didn't make — ported models, purchased clothing, commissioned textures — the application asks you to tell us about them and how you're licensed to use them. Be thorough here; discovering uncredited work later is far worse than declaring it up front.

- Clean record. No policy violations, and no soliciting paid or paywalled content on the Hub, in comments or private messages, or on our Discord before you're verified.

Applying

Accounts must be at least 60 days old before an application can be submitted. The application asks you to pick a few of your free resources to show us, tell us what you make and where your paid content will live, and confirm your work is your own or properly licensed.

Decisions are made by the moderation team and are final. If your application isn't approved you'll receive feedback with the decision, and you can apply again after 30 days. We would much rather see you again with more work than debate a past application.

Already posting paid content?

If you've already released paid content on the Hub, you don't need to complete the full application. Visit https://hub.virtamate.com/verified-creator/ and you'll be offered a short badge request instead. Creators in good standing will be approved quickly. Your existing paid resources and links stay exactly as they are; the badge is needed to post new paid content or add new support links.

Keeping your status

Verified Creator status is subject to the same policies as everything else on the Hub. Policy violations can result in restrictions to your account, and that includes loss of Verified Creator status.

What we've seen work

After years of watching creators come and go, a pattern is hard to miss. The paid creators who do well here — the ones with lasting subscriber bases, not a spike and a fade — almost all got there the same way.

They built a large body of high-quality free work first. That's what made them known. People subscribed because they already trusted the name.

They kept releasing free work after going paid. Not everything, but enough to stay part of the community rather than a storefront at the edge of it.

Many of them release paid content for free after a period of time. It keeps their older work in circulation, brings new people to their catalogue, and earns a lot of goodwill.

The creators who treat the Hub as a place to make a quick sale rarely last. The ones who treat it as a community they belong to tend to do very well, and the money follows. If you want to be a successful paid creator here, that's the path we'd recommend.
