It looks like I'm on the right track. Running a couple Alpaca's scenes at Utra and fps runs 60-90. Audio is solid, no skips. Just too much junk in my old folder it seems. Thanks again for your help.

I've had to rebuild my install and import my vars, after which I've had this issue with new and old scenes. If the creator has a payload effect added, the model starts out already wearing the effect. I've dug through previous posts and checked help. My apologies if this has been answered...
