    Sorry, just making sure... Did you set the shoulder or group-that-shoulder-is-a-part-of transparency slider to 1? The alpha mask modulates the slider effect, it does not automatically "cause" transparency...

    Every frequency band measures it's maximum level while the audio source is playing to determine the relative loudness. That maximum is reset when the audio is silent or the source stops playing.
