Keep in mind to not overdo things. Too many things can be overwhelming for the user, difficult to show, or a pain to maintain. Hiding atoms is a common method to prevent people moving things by mistake and messing up the scene. Atoms have a "hidden" checkbox on their main tab. A few embody modes... -

Yeah, I play VAM on Arch just fine in desktop mode. I have not tried VR on it though, I prefer to use Virtual Desktop on Windows for that. If you're new to Linux then Arch is probably a really big jump and you might want to try Ubuntu and variants for example instead. -

Location is fine, unless you made the Games folder more restricted in permissions than the default, which I doubt. Yes, you can move VAM somewhere else, it's not installed can be moved anywhere. Question Loading appearance window not showing (only Use merge load checkmark)
As you mention, this happens when the panel is still opened somewhere or didn't load properly and gives VAM the signal it's still open. You can try switching to Play mode or pressing Escape, but a hard reset is a simple way to fix this rare situation.- atani

I run VAM on arch too but just in desktop mode. Maybe you can try WyVRn instead of steamVR? Personally, I prefer having a dual boot system with Windows and linux, where on linux I do VAM on desktop mode for working and everything except VR playing, and Windows is kept minimal with Virtual... -

I don't recall the names well. One is like character transparency, and maybe a couple more with names that relate. Just go through the list of plugins, takes a few minutes, and the name will probably give away its purpose. -

Interesting. It's quite low impact to me, but knowing why it happens enables options to fix it or attempt workarounds, or the very least not be surprised about the sudden log error. Thank you for looking into this in a lot more detail than I could. -

This came up from an appearance preset I had before starting to use VAM on linux, and this error only came up when on linux, so safe to consider it didn't on Windows. I didn't have libgdiplus installed, maybe it won't happen anymore now that it was. I'll keep you posted on what happens, thanks...
