Procedural Veins
A complete, fully procedural vein system that brings subtle color, branching vessels and surface relief to the character's skin.
For female Genesis 2 Persons in VaM 1.x with Direct3D 11.

Fully procedural by design
To my knowledge, this is VaM's first complete, anatomically guided procedural system for superficial veins across the female body. I know of no direct equivalent combining generated vessel networks, independent regional controls and integration with live skin effects.
The plugin generates vessel paths, bends, varying widths, tributaries and secondary branches from anatomical guide corridors and a saved random seed. Once generated, the pattern stays stable and follows the skin through poses and appearance morphs. Regenerate it for a different network, or keep the seed to reproduce the same result after reloading.

Anatomy and appearance
  • Anatomically guided routes: vessels follow common superficial patterns across the arms, hands, legs, feet, breasts, abdomen, back and face. The network is an artistic approximation of common anatomy.
  • Natural variation between sides: the left and right sides share regional settings while receiving different bends, widths and branches.
  • Skin-aware color: vein pigment filters the existing skin color, including decals, preserving dark texture details and baked shading. Each region has its own color and intensity.
  • Adjustable relief: add a faint raised appearance that responds to scene lighting. Relief changes surface shading; the character's mesh and silhouette stay unchanged.
  • Careful coverage: the female genital graft has its own vein field. Vessels taper before excluded areola boundaries, while eyes, lips, nails and nipples remain clear.
Seven independently controlled regions
Face, Breasts, Gens, Ass, Body, Arms and Legs each have their own enable toggle, color picker and controls.
  • Color strength: adjust how strongly the pigment filters the skin.
  • Raised height: control surface relief separately from color.
  • Vein amount: add more independently varied vessels within a region. Existing vessels keep their positions as the amount increases.
  • Vein width: set the approximate width of the main vessels, with tapering branches.
  • Branch density: adjust tributaries independently of the main vessel count.
  • Regenerate veins: create and save a new pattern while retaining your appearance settings.
Defaults favor faint, cool pigmentation and very shallow relief. Settings and the seed save automatically for each Person, and the controls are available to VaM triggers.

Performance and optimization
I pushed optimization as far as I could, fighting for fractions of a millisecond throughout development.
  • The vein network is generated when needed and reused throughout the scene. Initial generation is spread over several frames.
  • The layer follows VaM's existing animated skin geometry without GPU readback or rebuilding a separate animated mesh every frame.
  • Color, relief and enable changes update a small regional palette without regenerating the vessel network.
  • The shader reads current skin textures directly, including live effects, without repeatedly compositing full skin maps.
  • Disabling the plugin stops drawing its layer. Re-enabling reuses the resident vein fields.
Part of one unified system
This plugin is part of my unified procedural system for VaM. The four components share the same focus: effects generated at runtime, responsive behavior and carefully optimized performance.
  • Procedural Mascara: evolving mascara, tears and contact smearing.
  • Procedural Saliva: attached liquid strands that form, stretch, merge and break.
  • Procedural Wrinkles: skin folds driven by local compression.
  • Procedural Slaps: contact-based redness, irritation and accumulated pain.
  • Procedural Veins: veins with anatomical branching, regional color and subtle skin relief.
Each component can be used individually or combined with the others as part of the same system.

Skin integration and compatibility
Veins draws an independent shaded layer, leaving the character's original skin materials, shaders and texture slots untouched. Existing skin textures retain their resolution and tiling.
Compatibility checks cover Procedural Mascara and Procedural Wrinkles in both load orders. Native VaM skin lighting and mapped Phong tessellation are supported.
