Hello fellas,

I have a Ryzen 5700X CPU with an RTX 3060.

Some cash fell into hand, and I want to upgrade to either the RX 7900 XT, or the GTX 4070.

Which would be better for VR Performance in VAM? The RTX 4070 is newer, cheaper, but according to userbenchmark.com it's also ~18% slower. VAM being an older engine, would I get any noticaeble better fps with the 7900 XT?

I know my CPU may bottleneck a little, but I'd rather get a better card now, for future CPU upgrade.

Oh one more thing! There are so many different versions out there, is it better to go for the ones with more GB, or does that not matter too much?

Thanks everyone for any input!

I see the 7900XT is available with 20GB, but the 4070 seemingly only with 12GB? I guess for VR ram makes a difference? or not really?

Not sure if you know this but the 50xx series should be out as of yesterday, or at least partially i believe (5090 and 5080 first maybe? idk). Probably worth considering one of those.

In my view, you should buy rtx4070, because vam2 is under development, I think the Frame insertion technology like DLSS3 will be used in vam2. Another side, there are some more interesting gameplay, such as artificial intelligence, may be added to this game, they usually use nividia GPU.

You may have already bought your GPU by now, but I thought I'd leave my two cents here anwyays.

I agree with GGboy's statement. With the way modern computing is going, NVIDIA seems to be taking the lead when it comes to boosting performance for games/software that runs in real-time.

I especially agree with the point about artificial intelligence - there are already plugins and frameworks that you can use in VAM such as Voxta that allow for very interactive gameplay, and to my knowledge the more recent Nvidia cards really help such technologies run smoothly. That doesn't mean modern AMD cards can't be used for AI or related technologies, but I haven't heard as much info about them as I have NVIDIA (Doesn't help that NVIDIA controls the majority of the marketshare in this field, but that's irrelevant).
