How to: open .var files in explorer

Guides How to: open .var files in explorer

Credit where credit is due: some random forum post here.

  1. Open regedit: ctrl+r and search regedit
  2. Find the right file: on my computer it's
    Code:
    Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.zip
but you can ctrl+f and search ".zip" and it should pop up
  3. Export the file: File > Export and save it wherever
  4. Open and edit: Open the file by shift+right click > Edit in notepad and it's pretty quick to change things up using ctrl+h Find and Replace. Search for ".zip" and replace with ".var"
  5. Save the file: When you save it, you need to change the file extension to .reg - there are a few ways to do this but the easiest is to make the the dropdown menu below the Filename is set to "All Files" - and append .reg to the endf of the file
  6. Open the file: It will pop up with a warning, which you can click through.
  7. Restart!
Super easy! This is my first time posting here, so if it requires more clarification, I'll update and edit.
