VaM 1.x It’s 2026, what CPU/GPU combo are you running with VR? And how does it handle?

It’s 2026. Computer parts are stupid expensive. Steam is about to release a competitor to the Meta Quest. Vam2 is still on the distant horizon.

We all want the RTX 5090 with all the bells and whistles, but that might be out of reach for the average user for quite some time.

What hardware are you using for Vam in VR? How is your performance?

CPU : X870E+9700X,
GPU : RTX5080
MEM : DDR5 5600,64GB
Desktop : 32int 4K Display
HMD : Quest3 256GB

I'm very comfortable.

We need new laws against scalpers ;( I waited many years to buy a new gpu, but it only got worse. With my previous 3090 performance was some kind of "acceptable", but always compromising quality and scene content. With my current rig it is much better, but ofc it isn't enough to crank everything up, but no need for that i guess. The usual bottlenecks like number of atoms and lights are still a "problem".

This thread should give you much more details then subjective classification:

AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WIFI
ZOTAC GeForce RTX 5090 SOLID OC 32GB
64GB DDR5-6000/CL30 Kingston FURY Beast
Samsung 990 Pro 4TB
be quiet! Dark Power 13
Samsung 49 Zoll Curved Ultrawide Monitor
Logitech G915 X Lightspeed
Razer Naga V2 Pro
Pico 4

It's not like that would solve the problem. They'd just sell out in minutes rather than seconds, and then they'd be unavailable at any price.

Been using basically this setup for i think 7 years now with the Valve Index.
Depending on the complexity of the scene i can get up to 50 ~ 70 fps
But at least for me, I don't find it annoying enough to tune things down until it's consistently below like 15.
Would be nice to upgrade but I play non vr games at 1440p perfectly well on this rig.
Might be the last PC I own though because by the way things are going, parts will be unobtanium by the time this thing breaks down.
The Steam Frame does look like a sweet piece of gear though! I hope they can scrounge up enough ram to put it on the market at a reasonable price. I can't justify getting one though as long as my index is still kickin'.
