Dagger - Gyat damn...

View attachment 448109

I'm running out of quirky quips here
Hiya! here I have Dagger from Marvel Rivals, gal of the gyat proportion and on a very small var size too, for the CUA its just her hair and earring which is already included as part of her outfit so yeah along with a base scene that's about it let me know what you think!

Oh yeah, if you like my work you can tip me on my kofi page...

Hello, thank you for this port, she looks good :)

However, the Earrings and the Hair give me errors upon loading the saved Appearance in a new scene.

"Error during attempt to load assetbundle [folder structure]. Not valid." (folder structure part is the in-.VAR structure)

In your default scene, the Earrings actually float next to the ears, and aren't attached to it (although they do appear). The hair is there and on the head, it shows up. But if I save the Appearance (with the Earrings and the Hair, of course) and then load a new scene, and in that new scene if I then replace an existing character's appearance with yours, everything loads up fine with the exception of the Earrings, and the Hair (she loads bald, and the earrings do not show up either).

Not sure what is causing that. The Earrings show up fine in your preview picture, not sure why. In my case the Earrings are floating in the air next to the ears. It's weird. Any suggestions?

Side note: I do have both of the Stopper's Plugins as mentioned in the Dependencies installed.

Thank you.

Hmm that is interesting I thought I fixed that when testing its basically because I use qdaro modified CUA clothing plugins and it behaves a bit differently when summoning the asset bundle which causes the error, on my other release I have to verbosely state the address all the way to the var name to summon the asset bundle with the modified plugins but somehow if I do that on this release it errors out thats why I omit the var address and just do it default way.

As for the hair its should be more stable since I use the original stopper plugins for that one, if you reload the hair does it reappear or is it still missing?

DitzyDitz updated Dagger with a new update entry:

Hotfix 1

Hi, sorry for the late reply.

I tried again (after re-downloading your .VAR).

So here is what happens so far:

1) In your original Scene (with the new download), now the Earring is properly following and is attached to the earlobe (also, after doing a Pose Reset, the Earring follows properly). So does the Hair, it shows up, it follows, fine and dandy.

2) So I made a test in the Scene (your default Scene). I brought up a base / default Female Atom, and on that default Female Atom I tried to load my previously-saved Appearance to replace her (I.E. the previously-saved Dagger Appearance which I took from the default Scene, from your previous .VAR before this update). As I expected, it gave me the same errors, and both the Hair and the Earrings did not show up (but the rest did, the Morphs, Textures and the rest of the Clothing, suit, etc; it's all there except Hair + Earrings).

3) So I thought alright, let's try something else. So again, still in the default Scene (now with your Dagger still in the Scene + my replaced Female Atom next to it) I went on your 'new' default Dagger, and from her, I simply saved a Clothing Preset (with ONLY the Hair + Earring, as part of that Preset).

4) I then loaded that new Clothing Preset I just made unto the 'default Female' next to her (the one I replaced the Look of). The Clothing Preset on THAT Atom did work (again, all of that happened in your default Scene). So from there, I decided to re-save my Appearance (Overwrote the older one), including the new-apparently-working Clothing Preset as part of it (so basically everything was there when I saved that new Appearance).

BUT...

5) After that, I loaded a new Scene, and again, replaced a pre-existing Atom in that Scene with the newly-created Saved Appearance.

6) Basically at that point, the same issue happened, which is that the Hair and the Earrings both did not appear, and the same Assetbundle error showed up.

So, unfortunately, I must say that for some reason it still doesn't fully work. It DOES work if I stay in your original Scene (and only if I create a Clothing Preset there). But obviously... I have to use this Look in custom Scenes; so technically for now her Hair + Earrings are pretty much 'unusable', so to speak (I.E. cannot bring them in other Scenes).

It's probably not what you wanted to read but yeah, at least speaking for me, that's what I am experiencing; unfortunately.

Do you have an example scene perhaps of which it errors out? yesterday I only tried it with a 3 point light base scene with only one default female atom and on a clean VAM installation and fortunately it works for me so I thought the fix was to only rename the asset bundle address.

Do you have the same issue with my psylocke character perhaps? I know that hair could be bugged out as well because I forgot to change the address but the ribbon should work thingy that she wears should properly spawn outside of the base scene.

Ohh yea have you tried to force reload the clothing when it didn't show?

Ok I tried with your Psylocke, and it all works... except the Hair.

I also tried to go in the Hair item's Customize options, to Force Reload, and it errors out the same way, assetbundle error thing shows up in the log.

Additionally (if this helps), if I check in the Psylocke's Hair Plugin tab, and then check in the Stopper.CUAClothing options, I notice that there is simply no Asset file listed at all (in the Asset drop-down list).

BUT...

If I manually use the Select File function of the Stopper.CUAClothing Plugin, and then manually browser into your .VAR package, and then inside the folder structure to find and select the mr_psylocke_assets.assetbundle file, then the Hairstyle loads up properly.

So my guess is that for some reason, by 'default', when creating an Appearance save (or a Clothing Preset save), everything saves, except the items that happen to be using the Stopper.CUAClothing Plugin. And the solution (or, the 'workaround', for now) is to manually browse for it, select it, and then it should work. So there it is, there's a solution. However, the 'automation' stuff seems to be broken in terms of auto-loading without having to do manual loading. In any case, the workaround is simple enough to do.

I do have a guess on what might be going on here, but I'm not 100% sure. I am using the VarBrowser plugin, and that plugin creates a second 'full file' folder in the root installation of VAM, named AllPackages (I.E., all .VAR packs are found there). And then the plugin selects referenced files from that folder, and installs the required files inside the 'regular' AddonPackages folder in order for Scenes and various Assets to load in properly (it saves on performance and loading times). I wouldn't see why this might cause problems though, because ultimately, any required files for a Scene (or a Look) to work properly would be taken from the AllPackages folder, and put into the AddonPackages folder anyway (so the folder structure in that regard doesn't really change in the end). But anyway... maybe something is going on because of that plugin.

Anyway, it works now, or rather I should say "I know what to do", it's a workaround, not quite a 'fix' per se. But I can make it work by just manually getting the items to load with the Stopper.CUAClothing Plugin's file selection feature (good thing it's there for a start).

Well I'm glad you found some workaround on it and honestly the CUA Plugin themselves are prone to weird issue and such on my testing alone but I chalked it up to my old system, and the more superficial problem are usually in regards to the assetbundle address thingy which causes it to not spawn properly.

But you could be on to something in regards of the VarBrowser plugin because I never use it in both of my VAM installation so I never really got a chance to test it with that, and I have tested it again spawning both just the hair and the whole appearance preset on a completely separate scene and it works just fine for this version on my clean VAM installation.

I'm not a huge fan of the Rivals art style (particularly for every X-Men character that isn't Magik, who was pretty much in that style since the 2010s anyways), but something about this Dagger import spoke to me.

Dagger Quarry.png

Not sure why I went for a quarry scene but I knew I had to use one of (RIP) ChainedStar's prior OW skybox HDRI imports for the knockoff vibes. I know the pose is pretty basic too; one of khlpgz's classics. Maybe I'll try for an action pose with some particle effects at some point. Regardless, this scene ended up with some really nice lighting so I felt like sharing. Plus, her already-amazing hair looks even better with the CUAShader plugin (set to "Marmoset/Specular IBL Soft") applied!

Outstanding import job, with a really nice use of the Stopper CUAClothing plugins too!

...actually I think this is a better shot (not totally sure though):
