Yes I think you understood correctly. This tool allow you to create presets and only load the selected files in the preset. The other files are not visible until you launch another preset or the full VaM.

The dependencies listed inside the files you select should be included automatially always. Even if you select "None" in the "Saved Appearance Presets". Please email me an example file where this happens and I'll be happy to debug it for you.
