"I feel a great deal of pain and sorrow in you heart, my dear. Come, sit with us by the fire. Your past does not matter here. This is a haven for all of those, to whom fate has not been kind. You may find shelter here for as long as you like."

Another original character based on the Dunmer from The Elder Scrolls. This is Lady Vudrani Sarethi, once a noble woman married to one of the most powerful men in Morrowind. Stricken by many tragedies, she ended up taking over an abandoned tavern in Blacklight, Morrowind's new capital. She would eventually turn it into The Haven: A tavern, nursery and safehouse (mostly) for young women and orphans. Although most people still refered to her as Lady Sarethi, she would soon be known as The Red Lady of Blacklight - a mother figure for many unfortunate people. Although some rumors began to spread, claiming that she was in fact a spy working for one of the Great Houses, using the tavern as nothing but a cover for her operations. Some even claimed she murdered her husband, or that she was a worshipper of Mephala, Daedric Prince of lies and assassins. Vudrani was shocked and deeply offended by these rumors at first. However, they attracted more people to The Haven - and added a more mysterious facet to the persona of "The Red Lady". Many people now wanted to meet her firsthand, and were convinced that these accusations were born out of spite and jealousy. Whatever the case, the Red Lady grew to be one of the most popular, and - to some degree - influential people in Blacklight and beyond. Tales of her kindness and beauty would spread throughout all of Tamriel. Many men claimed to have spent a night with her. But in truth, only very few were lucky enough...

More of Vudrani's story (contains some dark and depressing themes, be warned!):

Vudrani was originally born on Vvardenfell, after the events of the Red Year. She belonged to the Ashlanders of the Urshilaku clan, the native people of the island, who had stayed and survived the eruption of Red Mountain, the gigantic volcano. After clashing with her mother, the wise woman of the clan, she ran away. Unfortunately, she was captured by some of the many bandits that now lived on Vvardenfell. They forced themselves on the young woman, but in doing so awakened the wrath of her ancestors. A blazing fire instantly reduced all of the bandits to ash. Days later, Vudrani's clan discovered her amulet among the piles of ash and charred bones. She was proclaimed dead, although she managed to flee and get on a boat to the mainland of Morrowind. On her way to the capital, she met a guard captain by the name of Moran Sarethi - her future husband. Sadly, their happy marriage did not last for long. The constant stress of being an aspiring politician took a toll on Moran, and he drowned his sorrows in booze. Vudrani would often be the target of his drunken fits of rage, even while she was pregnant with his child. One fateful day, Moran lashed out so heavily at his wife, that she collapsed to the floor. It was only a week later that she had a miscarriage. Realizing what he had done, Moran could not bear his sorrow and guilt. He was found with his own dagger embedded into his chest. Vudrani signed over all of her late husband's property to a distant relative of the family. She no longer saw herself as part of the Sarethi family. So she sought out what was left of her old family on the island of Vvardenfell. Her mother had already passed many decades ago, but some of her clan members were happy to know Vudrani hat survived after all. Seeing the young children of her clan, Vudrani felt her sorrow washed away by waves of happiness. She suddenly felt a new sense of purpose, remembering all the children in Blacklight that were less lucky than her. She could be a mother to them, at least.
