A few people have mentioned that I never give backstories to any of my characters. Personally, I feel that a blank slate is ideal because they can fit whatever fantasy the downloader wants them to, but, since it was requested, I decided to write a backstory for Eridane. I wanted to make sure I didn't leave anything out, so the story begins a tiny bit before she was born.
Billions of years ago the earth was a chaotic and violent mass of molten rock and metal. After the superheated material formed its rough spherical shape, the Hadean Era officially began, spanning roughly a billion years after the earth's formation when the leftover matter in the accretion disk blasted outward from the ignition of the sun. It was a time of intense heat and frequent impacts from water ice comets and asteroids, but it wasn't long before the first signs of life appeared on Earth.
Moving into the Archean Era, which lasted from roughly 4 billion years ago to 2.5 billion years ago, rapid geological changes are taking place and, many origin of life researchers believe by using a crude visage of RNA duplication, the first protocells of life began to populate the earth. Gradually these protocells evolved in complexity to compete for resources. The Earth's surface was constantly shaped and reshaped by massive volcanic eruptions and earthquakes on a scale no human has ever borne witness to. The first proto-continental shapes begin to form during this time.
The Proterozoic Era, lasting from 2.5 billion to 541 million years ago, was a time of dramatic geological changes. The first oceans formed, and with them the prokaryotes, cyanobacteria, swelled in numbers. After millions of years the byproduct from this misnamed blue-green algae, oxygen, began to accumulate in the atmosphere and would eventually lead to eukaryotic cells, and the evolution of complex life forms.
And so, from the moment the first proton and and electron shared their first dance after the universe cooled enough for the recombination era to begin, a series of events was set into motion, and after billions of years, these events lead to a young couple in a small town being blessed with the birth of a baby girl. They named her Eridane, and she grew up in a loving and nurturing environment. From a young age, Eridane displayed an insatiable curiosity about the world around her and had a talent for learning new things quickly.
As Eridane grew older, she continued to excel academically, and by the time she reached her teenage years, she knew that she wanted to pursue a career in science. She was fascinated by the intricacies of the natural world and the mysteries that still remain unsolved. She was determined to be part of the generation that would help to unlock some of these secrets.
After finishing high school, she enrolled in a top university where she studied biology and chemistry. She threw herself into her studies, spending long hours in the laboratory and in the field, conducting research and making new discoveries.
Despite the challenges and setbacks she faced along the way, Eridane never lost her determination and her love for science. She worked tirelessly, and her hard work paid off when she made a groundbreaking discovery that shed new light on a previously unknown aspect of cellular biology.
And so, as the Earth continues to evolve and change, Eridane remains steadfast in her pursuit of knowledge and her commitment to making a positive difference in the world. Despite all the challenges she has faced and all the obstacles she has overcome, she remains optimistic and filled with hope for the future. For her, the story of the Earth is far from over, and she is determined to play a part in shaping its next chapter.
