Add as a Session plugin and select your resolution.

Select Maintain in Background to have your preset applied when it changes for any number of reasons.

Known issue: Selecting the 4k preset on a non-4k monitor while Maintain in Background is checked may cause weird behavior.

finally, alt tabbing outside VAM always messed up the resolution back to screen resolution
