What is this ?

This file is a sbsar file for Substance Painter focused on body hair creation for your characters.
The generator features several type of strands so this can be used to create body hairs overall: eyebrows, beard, genital hairs etc...

Examples

Eyebrows achieved with the texture generator for an upcoming character

How to use ?

First, obviously you need to have Substance Painter.

The texture generator is thought first and foremost to be used as an alpha on a fill layer (but this does not mean you can't use it in other ways).
If you want to use it the way it was meant to be :
  • Add a fill layer, enable the channels you want ( color, spec, gloss, height etc... )
  • Add a black mask
  • Add a paint layer on the mask
  • Start adding path using the generator and configure it to your liking to create your hairs
As an example for eyebrows : the system is not meant to create eyebrows in one shot. You will have to create your eyebrows using several paths and tweak them to reach a realistic or stylized result.

Recommandations

On the path/brush, ensure enabling and tweaking the jitter params to create randomization over the whole path.
This will result in a more natural look

On the path/brush, ensure enabling Random seed per stamp.
For each path change the sample amount ( 32 / 64 / 128 ), this will also help improve the randomization.

And finally, on the generator, select the hair type and play around with the settings to achieve the results you want.
Some settings are available (or not) for some hair types.
