VideoBiasLight - Dynamic Light That Reacts to Videos

Plugins + Scripts VideoBiasLight - Dynamic Light That Reacts to Videos

Download [<1 MB]
Lightweight plug-in that you attach to ImagePanel or ImagePanelEmissive that creates light that will then react dynamically to a video that's playing. Can bring a movie theater scene to life.

You can change sampling time, and intensity and range and minimum brightness (so that very dark scenes don't lose all light completely).

Features
  • Automatic color sampling from any ImagePanelEmissive video
  • Smooth, stable color transitions
  • Gamma‑corrected sampling for accurate color
  • Configurable minimum brightness (keeps dark scenes visible)
  • Correct shadow settings for clean, soft shadows
  • Automatic detection when the video becomes ready
Instructions
  • Simply add as a plug-in to any ImagePanel and play a video
  • If you clear the video and then play another one, you might need to click reload on the plug-in for it to work again
  • If there are bugs post them, I'll try to fix them
  • There will probably be a few bugs...

I thought of it as a TV show, but it didn't turn out as I expected because it was only lighting up the background. A spotlight would have been more realistic.

now sure what you mean? Point light gives a realistic glow and it's what TVs actually do. If it's lighting the background you might have the shadows turned off, and light will bleed through everything. If you want to explain more, can you put some comments in discussion?

Thanks for your great plugins. Beats the spotlight with randomfloat value or using beatit to try and simulate something similar. Can't wait to try it out.

Excellent idea!!!
Please consider altering sampling method for more realistic effect. Instead of UL corner, I would propose RGB mean from all four corners plus centerpoint (biased). Or perhaps just move sampling point at center.
Additionally you could provide user with a set of alternative sampling methods to select from.

Nice! I've got a subscene with an imagepanel with attached spotlight; this will do a much better job!

nice! I'm sure a lot of us tried that same thing before trying to get these kinds of results before just giving up, lol
