Hey guys, I’ve got a question:Why do characters sometimes end up shrugging—especially when switching directly between basic presets?

Could be a morph which is saved to the appearance. Check the morphs tab when this happens and see if you have an active "Shrug" morph or similar, play with the active sliders if there're many to see which is affecting this.

Thank you, my friend; I’ll give it a try.

Hello, my friend. This doesn't seem to be a shoulder issue—could it be a problem with the skeletal nodes or the pose? Sometimes it just shrugs and twitches, which looks quite uncomfortable.

Could be some some bone morph merging that went wrong? Sometimes pose switching get a bit wonky, a "reset pose" ocasionally resolves it if it's not a problem with non-pose morphs.

On a side note, please write a better title next time, for example:
  • Why do characters sometimes shrug?
Your current title is more suited to the body of the thread as it's very long, a title should be short and to the point as much as possible.

Hi, when you say "reset pose," do you mean restoring it to the initial pose? I tried restoring it, and it does go back to the T-pose, but the shoulders are shrugged, which looks quite odd... Thank you anyway for your reply! Okay, from now on I'll make my titles direct and to the point!

If the default pose in Pose presets doesn't work well enough, I try also the reset legacy pose:

A few times the reset legacy pose brought back the root control node that a Pose preset reset didn't, so maybe it could help with the shrugging if it's not a morph issue.

Right... I feel it's probably not a deformation issue. Sometimes the waist just tilts to one side and the body shakes... Thank you for your reply. I will study it carefully!

It could be the body morph has been scaled down too much. That will cause poses to look wrong, the shoulders to shrug and the waist to not sit right. Go to the active morphs, slide the body morph for your character to 0 and see if that fixes the pose. If the scaling is in addition to the body morph, like "torso length" or something to that effect, try to remove that. You may not want these permanently removed but it will give you an indication if that is the problem.
