That sounds like lots of work. I have yet to completely understand how to make uv maps, that was a headache when I made lightsaber hilts in Blender.

your so right friend, when shapes start to get complicated they can be a pain to figure out on uv unwrapping
ready for texturing and creating metallic ,roughness ,normal maps and AO maps that are a challenge to get right.
